ReplyDeleteI think he means that our built environment is not just about satisfying our first needs we need more something beyond functionality. In other words, the famous difference between Home and House. This citation from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi might be more of help in this regard: "The things with which people interact are not simply tools for survival, or for making survival easier and more comfortable. Things embody goals, make skills manifest and shape the identities of their users".
